The Policy
A new volunteer membership policy was put into effect in June 2005 for a three-month
trial and to take full effect in September 2005.
- The station volunteer labor will be divided into six main areas: Music
Library, Training, Production, Promotion, Tech, and Administration.
- Each area will have a coordinator (AC). It will be the responsibility
of the AC to assign tasks to volunteers within his or her area, monitor
and evaluate tasks, and keep track of volunteer hours within the area.
The AC will report those hours at the end of every month to the volunteer
hours tracker (VHT). ACs will also coordinate on a regular basis with the
Executive Director (ED).
- Each volunteer will sign up for a regular assignment within one of the
six main areas. Volunteers may also work on committees and collectives,
however this work cannot account for more than half of an on-air volunteer’s required hours.
- Each volunteer will be required to complete one hour per month plus
ten hours during each pledge drive. In addition, programmers will be required
to complete two hours per month for every hour he or she is on the air.
Shows that have multiple programmers will divide their hours accordingly.
- Programmers who fall behind at the end of the month will be issued a
warning. Any programmer who fails to catch up after three months will be
suspended.
- The ED and the ACs will be in charge of coordinating ad hoc labor. All
ad hoc labor must be approved by the ED or an AC.
- The VHT will keep track of the status of each volunteer and post publicly
every month the volunteers’ status. The VHT will also keep the
ED apprised of those programmers who are in arrears with their volunteer
hours. In addition the VHT will provide the Program Committee with
volunteer hours data to assist them with programming decisions.
- The ED will issue warnings and suspensions to delinquent programmers.
The ED will also keep the PC apprised of delinquent programmers and slots
that need to be filled.
- Programmers will be allowed vacation time. This must be worked out with
the ED or AC.
Reporting
Report hours to your Area Coordinator (AC) or Committee Chair who will report
these hours for you. You must contact AC prior to completing hours. You cannot
get hours for show preparation. Committee chairs will report hours for committee
meeting attendance (for members of the committee). Attending meetings as a
spectator does not count as volunteer hours.
Programmers/volunteers must report hours to ACs on the 5th of each month
for all hours completed the previous month. Do NOT report directly to the volunteer coordinator or
the ED (unless she is the AC for what you are reporting). Any hours reported after
the 5th of the month will go towards the following month. ACs will report to
the volunteer reporter by the 10th of each month for all hours completed the
previous month. You must contact ACs before completing hours.
