Reflection of Community Outreach will feature two guests this week. Our first guest is the Lutheran Social Services of the South to discuss their non-profit and its work with Austinites devastated by the Halloween floods. To close out the show we will discuss the upcoming Cherrywood Art Fair with longtime Cherrywood neighborhood resident, and Event Chair, Rick McNulty. The Art Fair will be held on Saturday and Sunday 7 & 8 December at the Maplewood Elementary School. Monday, 12/2, 1:30-2pm
Lights, Camera, Austin talks with former Saturday Night Live funnyman Will Forte (pictured) about his breakout dramatic role in director Alexander Payne's Nebraska, which is now in theaters. John Sayles, the godfather of U.S. independent cinema, will discuss his new film, Go for Sisters, which opens Dec. 6. Sayles will attend The Austin Film Society screenings of Go for Sisters (Dec. 7) and his 1987 classic labor drama Matewan (Dec. 8) Thursday, 12/5, 2-3pm
People United features activist and mass-media veteran Marcelo Tafoya on The Echo and Musica, two newspapers he used to publish that served Austin's Mexican American community. Friday, 12/6, 1-2pm
Tune in to The Clear Spot for a live set by Austin's favourite Rock'n'Roll Christmas band, The Blitzens. Saturday, 12/7, 7-8pm
Texas Observer Radio Debuts on KOOP
Hitting the airwaves November 5th, and airing Tuesdays 2:00 - 2:30 p.m., KOOP proudly announces a new partnership with The Texas Observer, an investigative social justice news organization, to air a compelling new program: Texas Observer Radio with host Jonathan McNamara. The weekly program will feature exploration of current statewide news stories with Texas Observer journalists and an in-depth interview on a particularly thorny political issue with a knowledgeable source.
