Rancho Del Ray with host Ted Smouse features live guest Bob Cheevers, an Emmy Award-winning singer-songwriter who relocated to Austin three years ago. Cheevers left behind almost two decades on the Nashville Americana country music scene and a legacy of charted hits during his California "pop" days. Here in Austin, Cheevers continues writing the musical tales of romance, tongue-in-cheek novelty tunes and striking character studies of people caught up in situations, many right out of his Mississippi Delta heritage. This Saturday (5/15) Cheevers has a CD release party at the Saxon Pub (2:00 - 5:00 p.m.) for Tall Texas Tales, a CD chockfull of authentic and humorous observations about Texas. As Bob himself would say, "I don't know if these stories are true, but they happened to me." Wednesday, 5/12, 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Cry For a Shadow-The Beatles (theme song, Anthology 1 album, Capitol Records)

Venus and Mars-Paul McCartney and Wings (Venus and Mars album, Capitol Records)

Rock Show-Paul McCartney and Wings (Venus and Mars album, Capitol Records)

Teardrops-George Harrison (Somewhere in England album-Capitol Records)

Move Over Ms. L-Keith Moon (Two Sides of the Moon album, Castle Music)

Lipstick Traces (On a Cigarette)-Ringo Starr (Bad Boy album, Portrait Records)

Paperback Writer-Sweet (Sweet Originals album, RCA Records)

Girl-Tiny Tim and Brave Combo (Girl album, Rounder Records)

Something-Shirley Bassey (Greatest Hits album, Liberty Records)

Eleanor Rigby-Wes Montgomery (Greatest Hits album, A&M Records)

WEEKLY RATIONALIZATION TRACK--Doesn’t truly “count” as Beatle-related, since it has no direct Beatle involvement and wasn’t written by a Beatle. Your program host Rush just rationalizes a way to include this very peripherally relevant song!

Lies-The Knickerbockers (Rockin’ with the Knickerbockers album, Sundazed Records)

    Rationalization:
This cool sixties garage track is heavily influenced by the Beatles, as were thousands of rock cuts of the time. This one, however, is so Beatlesque that many people thought that it was the Beatles. It’s a great song, and I’m happy to have an excuse to play it on the show!

Beatles Please Come Back-Gigi Parker and the Lovelies (Flabby Road album, Orange Records)

APPLE A DAY TRACK—a recorded gem from the Beatles’ own Apple label, which featured now-rare releases from a number of other artists, like this track from Joe South

Games People Play-Joe South (Come Together Soundtrack album, Apple Records)

Nobody Told Me-John Lennon (Lennon Legend album, EMI Records)

She’s Leaving Home-Wadim Brodski (Beatles Symphony album, Tonpress Records)

Background music beds for announcer voice-overs this week from violinist Wadim Brodski from his Beatles Symphony album (Tonpress Records):
