JIM HIGHTOWER REPORT

Here’s this weeks show which was a preview of some upcoming shows I have planned. As a reminder, beginning May 3, my show From The Other Side Of The Mirror will be broadcast from 9-10am every Monday morning.

Playlist below;

3. Nina Simone – Mississippi God Damn

4. Serge Gainsbourg – L’Hotel Particulier

5. The Fall – Lie Dream Of A Casino Soul

So, wow, we said goodbye today to BOTH Celtic Storm AND Everlasting Ghettoblaster. One very long-time KOOP institution and one more short term, but no less fantastic show. Well, it's the nature of life, right? Change.

So, I dedicated my first couple of tunes to Donnelle and her show, of 14 years!, Celtic Storm. She hopes to return...as does Ix of Everlasting Ghettoblaster. Wishing them well and we'll miss them both.

BUT, next week, new, fresh KOOP voices will be filling their time slots. So, stay tuned and be prepared to continue to be entertained, informed, and enriched by wonderful music and knowledge.

What's a Girl to Do will continue in the same time, same station. Hope you can continue to listen in.

Here's what I played on today's show:

People United talks about Haiti with Ansel Herz, a former host of the KVRX program On the Fringe and now a correspondent for Free Speech Radio News in Port-au-Prince.

Special 90-minute Episode

Arrow Through Me-Paul McCartney and Wings (Back to the Egg album, Capitol Records)

With a Little Help from My Friends-Sergio Mendes and Brasil ‘66

A Hard Day’s Night-Ramsey Lewis (Finest Hour album, Verve Records)

WEEKLY RATIONALIZATION TRACK--Doesn’t truly “count” as Beatle-related, since it has no direct Beatle involvement and wasn’t written by a Beatle. Your program host Rush just rationalizes a way to include this very peripherally relevant song!

Parchman Farm-The Traits

Rationalization:
This cool sixties garage track features a young Johnny Winter on guitar, who incorporates the familiar guitar hook from the Beatles’ I Feel Fine for just a few seconds. That’s all I need to rationalize this song’s inclusion on the show!

You Won’t See Me-Bryan Ferry (These Foolish Things album, Atlantic Records)

Jealous Guy-Roxy Music (featuring Bryan Ferry

Only People-John Lennon (Mind Games album, Capitol Records)

Beatle Mania Blues-The Roaches

With our bonus half-hour tonight, we will include two long tracks, one from Ringo’s All-Starr Band, one from the Apple Records archives

Three Little Feelings-The Modern Jazz Quartet (Under the Jasmin Tree album, Apple Records)

Background music beds for announcer voice-overs this week from the London Festival Orchestra from their Music of Bacharach and the Beatles album (GWP Records):
Here There and Everywhere
Hey Jude
Day Tripper
Lady Madonna
The Fool on the Hill
Special 90-minute Episode

I Don’t Wanna Face It-John Lennon (Milk and Honey album, Capitol Records)

Fading In Fading Out-Ringo Starr (Choose Love album, Koch Records)

Wanderlust-Paul McCartney (Tug of War album, Columbia Records)

With a Little Help from My Friends-Richie Havens (1983 album, Polydor Records)

Richie Havens Off the Beatle Path custom ID!

For No One-Rickie Lee Jones (It’s Like This album, Artemis Records)

My Love-Sam Butera and the Wildest (Still Cookin’ album, Poor Boy Records)

If I Fell-The Essentials (Come Together album, various artists a cappella, Hot Lips Records)

WEEKLY RATIONALIZATION TRACK--Doesn’t truly “count” as Beatle-related, since it has no direct Beatle involvement and wasn’t written by a Beatle. Your program host Rush just rationalizes a way to include this very peripherally relevant song!

When She Cries at Night-Delbert McClinton (Acquired Taste album, New West Records)

Rationalization:
Delbert McClinton was a member of Bruce Channel’s band in the early sixties, at the time of Channel’s hit “Hey Baby.” When the band played London on a shared bill with the Beatles, McClinton and John Lennon chatted backstage, where McClinton shared some harmonica tips with Lennon. This incident is close enough for me to justify inclusion of Delbert here, and just to make the case stronger, I chose a particularly Beatlesque song from McClinton’s most recent release.

Honey Don’t-Carl Perkins and Ringo Starr (Go Cat Go album, Dinosaur Entertainment)

I Saw Her Standing There-Little Richard (Come Together album, soul and jazz various artists, Koch Records)

In My Living Room-Dana Cooper (Miracle Mile, Compass Records)

APPLE A DAY TRACK—a recorded gem from the Beatles’ own Apple label, which featured now-rare releases from a number of other artists, like this track from James Taylor

Brighten Your Night with My Day-James Taylor (James Taylor album, Apple Records)

With our bonus half-hour tonight, we will play two long Beatle covers and a long Paul McCartney (as the Fireman) track

Hey Jude-Clarence Wheeler and the Enforcers (Come Together album, soul and jazz various artists, Koch Records)

Revolution-Reckless Kelly (Reckless Kelly Was Here album, Sugar Hill Records)

Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest-The Fireman (Paul McCartney under a pseudonym; Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest album, Capitol Records)

Background music beds for announcer voice-overs this week from Count Basie from his Basie on the Beatles album (Happy Tiger Records):
