Under the Covers
with: Greg Ciotti
Friday 21:00:00 - 22:00:00

Focusing on cover music that brings something special, better, or new to the original – with any luck cleverly following a show-by-show theme. I will include KOOP programmer and listener favorite covers, perhaps as a single piece incorporated into each show, or as an entire show along the lines of Remix. I hope to focus on covers by musical genre but also music not known to be or thought to be covers. The show is meant to ultimately feature guest hosts or taped interviews that explore why there are covers to include social, cultural and economic reasons but also look into original or covered music used in a variety of diverse formats such as cabaret, cinema and performances that include impersonating the covered artist.

Dedicating my last regularly scheduled Under The Covers With Greg show to the two finest Louie's I know from Buffalo, Louis Sullivan and Louis Marchinda.
Some of the best covers I played were suggested by other KOOP programmers for specific shows or as guests. So many good songs did not make the final playlist and even Undercover Greg did not make the show. Thanks to Undercover Erin for staying calm and carrying on.
A Brit-band who started with Blues covers, converted to Pop covers before succeeding where The Exciters could not with "Do Wah Diddy Diddy"
An artist who put his mark on so many great covers, but also had a great deal of original work.
Linda Ronstadt made a career covering others' music, but she also made a boat load of money making them popular commercial hits.
Dave Edmunds is described as a roots rocker who stayed true to RnR throughout his career. We play a lot of very good Dave Edmunds that proves the very point.
We share an hour with members of the United Court of Austin, a fraternal organization that raises money for directed charities through drag performances. In their nineteen years in service to Austin they have raised and donated over one million dollars. We chat with Emperor XIX Chad Fairchild, Empress XIX Kari Hardwood, Darrell Yeoman and Panica Tack about the history of drag, some of the current trends while we play some of the music to which they perform. We even squeeze in a Divine piece, "The Name Game".
Jazz covers with a birthday request going out to my brother-in-law.
A wonderful DC performer who was discovered too late and died too young but left a beautiful legacy of covers, including a cut from her last gig at Blues Alley.
Songs we remembered from our Son's life.
