50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots

Friday 6/28, 9:30pm

This June marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.  On June 28, 1969 there was a raid at the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in Greenwich Village.  Patrons were fed up with demeaning treatment by the police.  That night the oppressed crowd decided that they were not going to take any more and a riot erupted.   The events of that night led to the first gay pride parades in the US and elsewhere.  In June, 2016 President Obama established the area around the site as the Stonewall National Monument, the first LGBT National Park in the United States.  KOOP celebrates this momentous event with special content on Reflections of Community Outreach, Civil Rights & Wrongs, The Community Pilot Show and other programs.
