KOOP Announces New General Manager

Thursday 1/4, 10:00am

KOOP is happy to announce Federico Pacheco as its new General Manager, who started officially on Wednesday, September 12.

Federico is an experienced professional who has worked in the broadcasting, marketing, and advertising industries, and has held leadership positions in local and international organizations. He holds a B.A. in Radio and TV Broadcasting from Indiana University and also has an MBA degree from IESA School of Business of Caracas and a Post Graduate Certification in Latin American Studies from Universidad Metropolitana of Venezuela.

Federico was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where he started his communication career first in advertising agencies, and later in the broadcasting industry when he founded and manage Circuito Radial X a national FM radio network acting as President and Executive Director for more than a decade.

In 2006, Federico decided to leave Venezuela with his family and emigrated to the USA, having accepted the leadership position at McCann WorldGroup to manage the advertising programs in Latin American, the Caribbean and Asia Pacific markets of the American Airlines account based in Dallas, Texas. In 2011, he became a USA citizen, and in 2014, as American Airlines changed ownership, he left the advertising agency to move to Austin to work as a marketing and advertising consultant, and most recently managing a brand communication design studio startup.

After years of work in corporations, Federico wanted to change shifts and also look for ways to give back to the community. He found his opportunity at the Austin Public Library, where his love for books and radio came together. Since early 2017 and working as a volunteer, he has assisted with the production of Volumes, the APL radio show broadcasted weekly at KOOP.

Federico is married to Leila Pacheco, has two children, Felix and Federico, both married to Texas girls, and has 2 grandchildren born in Austin.

“I am happy and thrilled to join the KOOP radio family," says Federico. "The work the volunteers do every day producing great radio, giving voice and sound to our diverse and rich community is simply extraordinary and unique. It is a model to follow for other communities. I will do all I can to make sure this work continues and gets all the support it needs to keep growing!”
